Hektor recently wondered “Should world leaders read more?”. Unable to decide for himself, he visited HYS to learn from those who have opinions left over even after they’ve finished bleating about Gordon Brown.

Absolutely, The more history books the better. And leave out the politically correct revisionist history. The older the books the better, since the saying those who do not study history are bound to repeat it, is a valid arguement. and is evidenced by reading many of the comments written here. You cannot understand a culture until you study it’s history. And forget the leftist PC history books, they have nothing to do with reality.

If you only read one book this year, stay at home.

I wish all these people on here saying president bush is not intelligent, Would show some proof of there degrees from Yale & Harvard like GWB has. Harvard & Yale does not give a grade to anyone regardless of who they are.Professor at these two Univeristies think there the smartest liberals in the world and dont bow to knowone.

I’m sure he seems like a towering intellect to you Marshall but you’re going to have to trust the rest of us on this one.

I expect the Prime Minister to read books on History, Geography, the Sciences, pop science, Newspapers, heck even extremest propoganda leaflets and hardcore religious texts as well as the more trashy newspapers, Harry Potter books, books on Law, Politics and whatever else he can get his hands on.

If someone is to head a Country, they should have a very wide knowledge base, so at least they can hold their own when the topic shifts from Q magazine to say, degradable or biodegradable?

Perhaps soldierret was thinking of the George Santayana aphorism:

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

People are always getting that wrong. Sigh…

Oh, hang on, he could have meant:

“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it”.

He still got it wrong though.
