On the subject of “anti-Americanism”.

We get lambasted for meddling. And yet when we meddled in WWII, everyone lambasted us for being *late.*

Charles, Indiana

That’s right! If only everyone were as perceptive as Charles we wouldn’t have to keep having this HYS “What fuels Anti-Americanism?” debate.

Plain Weird25 Jun 2007 07:13 pm

Thanks to Max for finding these.

One day it’s the black kids, another day it’s white kids…

One day it’s one story on BBC site, another day it’s something
completely different as if yesterday never happened…

**Acibeb**, London, UK

Yeah man.. it’s like.. you know… that thing when like you TOTALLY know what happened yesterday but, like, also you CAN’T REMEMBER what happened yesterday.. even though you, like, know that you TOTALLY know but just can’t remember.

When my partner and his brother were at primary school - they had the most sexist headmistress against boys. Once there was an incident in the girls toilet (flooded due to too much toilet paper stuffed in the toilet) and she called all the boys! She is still headmistress at the school. This sort of person does not do anything to boys regardless of colour of their skin.

**Helen W

I’m not sure I understand the terrible incident that so scarred your partner’s childhood but I do share your disgust at the appalling behaviour of the headmistress. We need headteachers who are prepared to do ANYTHING to boys.

Thanks to Jack for spotting these witterings on the subject of “Should we release some prisoners early?”.

Letting prisoners free is setting off a time bomb. I work with some and they frequently state they would re offend and are quite happy staying in the system because everything is done for them. Take a leaf out of foreign countries books england and stop being so soft!!!!!!!!!!! What about the victims!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! also compensations they receive should go to the victims family for their suffering, not prisoners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lizz, rotherham

Tough on Rotherham, tough on the causes of Rotherham.

Fining doesn’t work often, because you leave the criminals out of pocket and so they will rob, burgle or mug again. The answer is to;
a) reintroduce public hanging, flogging etc
b) build more prisons with the money from the olympics
c) make those prisons not like a beggars’ luxury hotel ie slimy, damp etc
d) show this on TV
e) don’t give “life sentences” of five years because it’s a serial rapist’s “human rights”. give him till he dies. For a mugging, give five years, not just two!!!!!!!
Myles Harcourt, Surrey

MORE SLIMY PRISONS.

Splendid idea. Splendid.
Let the rapists and kiddy fiddlers out too.
Mr P Correct, Politcally Correctville

That’s nothing. I’ve heard that it’s now “politically correct” to set fire to British pensioners. WHEN WILL THE MADNESS END?

Self-appointed Sages22 Jun 2007 04:43 pm

Thanks to James for everything below.

It would be interesting to do a survey of people in areas that affected both by flash-floods and hosepipe bans. Are people in these areas storing rainwater to water the gardens during drier times, or do they expect someone else to solve their problems for them?

Bob, Aberdeen

Presumably, as a wall of slurry-coloured water cascades towards his house and his less prudent neighbours duck for cover, he strokes his gasping petunias and smiles. Why worry about the thousands of pounds in damage when he can replace his laminate flooring with the pine forest he grew out the back? He’s prepared.

I think the whole article is appalling. The amount of allegations there are regarding racism in the uk at the moment, but yet we are allowed to put down white people. THAT IS RACISM. I am a white female and I feel hurt that people can discriminate the knowledge of a person because of they’re race. Statistics are not everything. Only because we are white DOES NOT mean we are thick!

Danielle, Croydon

This is very true. Research into intelligence distribution among different racial groups is controversial and, I suspect, difficult to fund and pursue in the current climate. This does not mean that there are not differences between the races. The fundamental mistake made by many people is conflating “equality” with “homogeneity”. i.e. believing that the discovery of differences between us has some bearing on the morality of equality. It does not. Is it prejudiced to refuse a man a job in childcare solely on the grounds of sex? Yes. Is it prejudiced to understand that more women than men want to work in childcare? No. I think the one thing we can be sure of is that, if detailed research begins to map the distributions of abilities and capacities amongst our differing races and sexes, Danielle will continue to be “obviously below average”.

I’m tired of people using china’s overpopulation problem as an excuse to allow them to polute. Heck, why don’t we all overpopulate our own countries just so we can be irresponsible too?

Ali Raza, Fort Collins, United States

You need a poke in the eye Ali. Poke yourself in the eye. Trust me, you NEED a poke in the eye.

On the subject of Gordon Brown offering Paddy Ashdown a cabinet post… I think.

Worthy components make good machinery.
The new sports model range rover(sports) is made of components of jaqua and land rover discivery-3. I am talking of good ‘MOT’.
The long term sustainability of the united kingdom(accross-the-board) is a common neutral ground available to all our
‘concious-politicians’; regardless of affiliations.
Freedom of speech and expression does not necessarily mean, freedom of ‘distruction’.
The nation is a great ‘asset’ for all politician(those who “cherish”).

Thanks to James for this one. It’s made my day.

I want to make one thing crystal clear

[subjectishatless]

As James said - Apparently, “I want” doesn’t get.

To answer, “who is Paris Hilton”, it’s the Joan Rivers joke:

Paris Hilton… She did a porno movie… In a Marriott hotel… Her parents are so ashamed.
Philip, London

————–

That’s true. It was a very degrading and disgusting thing to do. I mean honestly…. a Marriott? Has the girl got no class or shame?

So There, South of England, United Kingdom

No, I still don’t get it. Could you twat me repeatedly over the head with it until I’m as slow as you?

Building More Prison’s will crete more jobs (Which we all Want)and keeping convicted criminals behind bars to serve their full term. For me the answer is easy, Build More prison’s and create a safer envoirment for us all

michael, leigh

We will never be truly safe until we each have our own prison.
