Iain from Doncaster applies Darwins theory of natural selection to the question of house price affordability:
I believe that most people are like hamsters, in our own little hamsterworld cages trundling the wheel of commercial life round & round in ignorance till we drop off. But our evolvment from whereever we began includes a variety of animals which is why when it comes to buying houses & most other things the donkey side of us shows & we grab at carrots. Various animal instincts are such a part of us which is why various instincts are targeted by businesses, politicians & religions past & present. Many instincts & behaviours are unrealised by most as we try to distance ourselves from the animal world but our human behaviours ARE governed by what we actually are & not just what we want to be.

In the future, boffins will be able to modify our DNA and remove the donkey elements that cause us to speculate on the housing market.
I have a horrible vision of Iain showing us his “donkey side”.
Do you think people are submitting things to HYS to then try and get them on here?
A light hearted comment which correctly relates to our basic animalistic & forgotten tendencies which surface unrealised in our lives. Only the truely ignorant would trivialise the main point, but then some animals do try and take advantage out of what they are incapable of doing themselves. Cuckoo and Hyena come to mind though mainly the various scavengers of tit bits.
One man’s astute observation is another man’s bizarre abstraction, it seems.
I’ve just finished reading Jared Diamond’s “The Third Donkey” and have come to realise that Iain is not the puffed up ninny I first took him for. We could all learn a lot from people like Iain. “Truely”.

I have posted stuff to HYS with the hope of it appearing on this website, but my gems have never been picked up on. They’re still out there, keep looking ifyoullikeitsomuchwhydontyougolivethere.com.
I’m happy with the donkey part that evolution has givven me.
Evolvment…
If I was a biology professor I’d begin my first-year lectures by reading that post out in a perfectly serious (if slightly blotto) voice just to make them stare.
Hamsters have got credit cards now…I think I saw that on the telly. So, who knows, maybe houses aren’t so far off.
