Cultural disparity can cause problems, and one (very lazy) solution would be to only accept people whose culture matched the majority. We shouldn't be mocking this man for stupidity, we should be mocking him for laziness. It's a lazy solution. If you don't like cultural disparity, then wouldn't it be better to work hard to build bridges between cultures? Can you imagine a world where instead of knee-jerk xenophobic responses to immigration, we had people writing in to HYS saying things like "recently a lot of immigrants have moved in to my neighbourhood. A Pakistani family has moved in next door to me. I really would love to make friends with them, but I know nothing about them or their culture. Why isn't the council doing anything to help me out? Maybe a series of leaflets, or even a few local "meet your neighbours" "fun days" or "fairs"..." Well, the guy does have a point.
