Thanks to Kat for finding this one by another Kat.

I hate Hallowe’en. I believe that it is hugely harmful to pretend that dressing up and ‘being’ a witch or the Devil is a fun thing to do. Not only does it frighten and intimidate the elderly and single people, I feel that it is just so inappropriate to be basically celebrating evil. I don’t have children, but if and when I do, I will not be allowing my children to go and harrass people into giving them stuff under an evil guise. Hallowe’en- harmless fun? I don’t think so.

It’s a slippery slope. One minute they’re just dressing up as witches, the next they’re casting their hexes and causing the crops to wither.

This inspired me to create a new category for all those whose everyday lives are blighted by fear of witches, devils, vengeful gods, paedos, Harry Potter, ludicrous leftwing plots, ludicrous rightwing plots, terrorists and other assorted bogeymen. These people often combine their irrational fears with a wilful ignorance of everything they should genuinely be worrying about. I’m going to call it “Fearful Nincompoops” for the moment, unless someone suggests something better.

Martin Amis knows something about embarrasingly misinformed hate-and-fear-mongering. I think you should call the tag ‘Horrorist Suspects’ in his honour.

WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE LEARN THAT FANCY DRESS IS REAL! PUT THE BROOM DOWN AND BACK AWAY FROM THE FACEPAINTS SLOWLY!

It’s bad enough people have started to say ‘Happy Halloween’ because ‘Trick or Treat’ is too menancing.

Are you competing for the “Piss Poor Acronym” prize? Should warn you, there’s some tough competition.

“Single people”? Are single people skittish by nature? Does getting married somehow give you the ability to see through the costumes?

“Oh my god! It’s a witch! An actual witch!” “No, no, Bill. It’s just a little girl dressed as one. Me and the missus had a class on it when we got married.”

    Also: “I don’t have children”
    GOOD. DON’T.

Were any other single people scared out of their wits last Halloween? I had to stay inside with the door locked the whole day.

Oh dear. And there was me thinking that Hallowe’en had its roots in Samhain and the like, a time when the beloved dead could, should they wish, get briefly in touch with and comfort their loved ones. Really evil stuff.

The most evil thing about Hallowe’en is the little bastards effectively demanding money with menaces. Grrrr. Fetch me my Daily Mail, I feel my blood beginning to bubble.
