McDonalds is one of three companies that have won the right to offer academic qualifications. Is the McDiploma a good idea? *

What a load of rubbish about brain washing children with advertising, its the parents who do that by not caring about their children as well as schools for lack of P E. you can have food but u got to get exercise as well not just sit in front of a tv or computer.
McDonalds training is already regarded as the best in the world and already give diplomas for managent courses so i think its a good ide sure loads of others will jump on the band wagon, tescos etc
right going for a jog!!

I’m not sure I entirely agree with you on this one. Sure Ryan Kelly sounds like a cock, but i think people wanting to further themselves, or increase their chances of a better job is basically a good thing.
I don’t know the details of the McDonald’s quals, but the idea of ‘on the job training’ is tried and tested, and a gret way of getting those dirty immigrants off our streets…
…I’m sorry I didn’t mean that last bit.

McDonalds were in The Times 2007/2008 “Top 100 graduate employers”. But then so were BAE systems, RAF, Aldi and BP. If they don’t speak for quality, I will never know what does.

This is not HYS. Your opinions are not welcome here.

What’s wrong with Macdonalds giving vocational qualifications to it’s staff? Not everyone leaves school with a supportive family unit behind them. I lived with my grandmother when I left school. I had to get a job because the state pension wasn’t much to get by on in 1996.

It’s only right that employers whose workforce consists of low-skilled young people give their staff the opportunity to improve their chances in the job market when they move on. If the qualification is in burger management or fry salt injection then I’d be outraged. If they’re teaching useful skills that can be used outside the McD’s kitchen then I’m all for it.

MacDonalds is a massive shit of a company that does a lot of damage to every community they’re in. As far as I’m concerned they advertise poison to children. I will never eat there. But just because they’re who they are doesn’t mean everything they do is evil and worthy of scorn.

McDonalds training is the best in the world. Yale, Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge = shite.

    Dear Valued Team Member,

The McDonalds Academy is pleased to inform you that you have McPassed “Basic Hygiene in the Workplace”. You are now entitled to an £0.02 increase in salary and will no longer be required to slop out the shitters on the hour, every hour.

    Sincerely,
    R. McDonald.

From now on I’ll keep my opinions to HYS, 606 and any other BBC affiliated forum where I can converse with the shit-kickers and nutsacks.
    Nelson, I apologise.

I’m a bit annoyed that people are having opinions on here. If you are going to have opinions, please have the right ones.

But just because they’re who they are doesn’t mean everything they do is evil and worthy of scorn.

Yes it does. Everything they do is motivated by profit, as with every other publicly listed corporation. If you can’t see the downside, you should be looking for it. Somewhere, they’re making money at the expense of something or someone else. This is not about teaching useful skills to people who need them, it’s about making money for shareholders. Everything that any corporation does is always, directly or indirectly, about making money for shareholders. Everything. Including charity, training, corporate social responsibility, enviromental awareness. Everything. It’s the fiduciary duty of the board to ensure this. The money they spend on these things is not theirs to waste. They are accountable for the profit/loss they make on it. People who aren’t prepared to do whatever it takes to make profits don’t get to be on the board.

Thanks Pete. I’m a bit worried about all this “having opinions” stuff on here.

To be honest I’m just worried about what sites like this are doing to me.
I used to be a socially aware, politically intrigued, adept, artisitic and erudite person.
Now I find I just fink what Nelson tells me to fink and nowt else.

A dog called Kelly once caused me to get kicked by a horse. Now he’s spouting bollocks on the internet just like me.

    The bastard.

I thought I couldn’t be more snobby about my ancient university education, but this makes all the money and all the years worthwhile, just for the one day I meet someone who has a qualification from McDonalds.

Does the McDiploma come with fries?

  19. on 29 Jan 2008 at 7:45 am Barnsley Bill

Nothing wrong with training, of any sort. Even if it is trying (as an earlier commenter mentioned)to hit a small pot of coleslaw from 5 feet with your baby batter.
    Pedant alert…
The coleslaw is at KFC you numpty.
Anyway, I would suggest that Ryan the Golden retriever would struggle to get any sort of job with spelling as poor as his.
I suggest he hits himself on the head repeatedly with the concise oxford until he has absorbed some of the contents of said dictionary.

Oooh nelson. Profit is evil. You are right. I’m not going to work ever again.

bums, that might have been more of a comment about false altruism than anti-capitalism, but you take it however you want..

You’re also assuming that someone would want to hire you..
