Thanks to Lauren. Will more stop and search powers reduce crime?

I was stopped and searched. The only things I had on me were keys, wallet and mobile phone. On the day of the search, I was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt with a stripe on it. Plus wearing jeans and black trainers. My normal clobber which I wear out of work. I just got of a bus in Leeds and was forced down an alleyway by a couple of coppers. What made the police stop an innocent white man?

Perhaps they thought you were a black man who’d painted his face to look less like a criminal.

The fact that he’s from Leeds? That’d do me.

i *really* was stopped & searched @ Birmingham New Street on a saturday night whilst waiting for a friend outside M&S. I asked why and the 3 cops said “a drunk man says you followed him into the station..”

Greg must have left his “I’m an innocent White Man” badge at home so how were the police to know?

    What colour was the stripe?

I think that’s the key here.

I was “stopped and searched” at Euston tube a few days before christmas last year. I was asked to remove my coat, shoes and socks during the 15 minute inconvenience.

I had the last laugh though.

The policeman said: “Sorry sir, I know it’s a stupid question, but from this list (shows me a list with around 20 descriptions) which would you say describes your ethnicity?”

“Erm, this one (points to list) description F,” I replied.

“Are you sure, sir? Don’t you mean B ‘Caucasian male’?”

    “No, I’m a Sikh.”

Ho Ho Ho, it was hilarious especially when I’m not a sikh! Ho ho ho.

Maybe you had to be there.

Lest we forget, Peter Sym himself has been stopped and searched on no less than three occasions. He suspected it was because he is “youngish, white, with a nearly shaved head and built like a tank”.
I suspect Peter is in fact 40, whiteish, balding and barrel-like in structure. (I believe his misplaced ‘ish’ is the key)

Maybe they thought Greg was Polish, or (heaven forbid) a Frenchman

He should thank his lucky stars they didn’t mistake him for an innocent Brazilian.

i was once stopped and “searched”. the policeman said “there’s been a number of burglaries in the area. can i ask you what you have in your bag?”

i told him and he took my word for it without opening the bag. how slack is that? especially considering that i’m mixed race.
