Speaking as a fully paid-up gambling addict, I am fucking pissed off - to say the least - to learn that I have been missing out on my sixty quid a day hand-out for the last 25 years.

Alex: Could be he’s taking the piss. It’s like the old joke about sending asylum seekers back to their country of origin: if they get brutally tortured and executed without trial then their case is genuine and we can let them in.

Trouble is most people who make this joke have no grasp of irony, the sort of people who enjoy Alf Garnett but don’t realise that he’s taking the piss out of them. On balance, the guy is a gnu’s gulch and will be first up against the wall when the revolution comes.
