What’s the worst cover version of all time? The consensus seems to be “Gordon Clown and Nu Liar-Bore” as usual, yet some people are still confused:
What’s a “cover song”? I might recognize one if I heard it but I’m not familiar with that term.
Scott W, Port Orchard, USA
No matter Scott W, Port Orchard, USA doesn’t know what a cover song is. There’s no shame in not knowing stuff. Sherlock Holmes never knew that the earth revolved around the sun, Isaac Newton didn’t know about girls, and I have no idea why Scott W, Port Orchard, USA thought asking HYS was the best way to solve his query. It would take less than half the keystrokes to google it, save him one of his precious two posts an hour on the debate, and, best of all, not make him look like a confused old fart in front of the entire internet. Also, if he ever does get an answer from some kindly racist maniac, not only will it be lost in a sea of reactively-moderated drivel, but it will probably be incoherent, wrong and mostly about immigrants.
The only possible explanation I can think of is that, not content with being completely clueless, he wants to show the world just how many things there are that he has absolutely no idea about.
Could be worse mind - I remember once a comment got to fourth place despite beginning “I dont know much about him…”.
I do know that Topsy fucking Turvy has got some new cover versions, and they are equally as puerile as the original.
If he and his 63 alter ego’s were guilliotined the crowd would get their moneys worth.
A lot of people seemed to think that a cover song is the picture on the front of a record. An easy mistake to make, if you’re the sort of person who doesn’t read an article before commenting on it.
Also, someone wrote “Things can only get better” by NuLabour. I’m still splitting my sides.
I* think you will find the correct term is zaNu Liar-Bore
even if someone takes pity on him and anwsers, it is going to take a long time. maybe he thinks HYS is the internet.
What I want to know is why so many Americans post on HYS? Don’t they have websites in America? Or is it just the clueless ones? That question was rhetorical, by the way.
I think Simon’s on to something.
I’ve now got a horrific image of someone typing a question onto AskJeeves and the results that come back are responses from a HYS on the topic.
A quick question to Jeeves has allayed those fears.

Googling gets a funny one:-
First it asks “Did you mean “are you sick of nu-LINE-bore?”
Better though, only two links come up, both to the Sun Online Discussions, one on Dave resigns and one on Racism cuts both ways…
Google must have billions of links to HYS that it has just filled under unusable junk if it can’t find that overused phrase except twice.
Is Mr W. trying to start a game of Call My Bluff?
“Cover Song”. Is it:
(a) Pronounced “koh-va SONG”, a type of antelope from the Okavango Delta;
(b) A French castrato famous for regrowing his testicles and fathering 16 girls, or
(c) An incidence where a music group has run out of new ideas so completely that they are forced to resort to copying someone else?
Fortunately the HYS pages don’t get indexed by search engines on account of the robots.txt file here : http://newsforums.bbc.co.uk/robots.txt
Thank you for your attention. We now return you to your scheduled abusing of HYSers
@ Sam. Complete genius. I can just see Frank Muir sitting there with a smug grin on his face and Robert Robinson with his outstanding comb over.
Ping!
