surely saying that libertarians are really american republican misanthropes is somewhat akin to calling people who don’t think the state should grind poor people into the dust ‘communists’?

Are “libertarians” different to libertarians?

Yes. Libertarianism/anarchism is a perfectly respectable philosophy in itself. I’m thinking of the right-wing American version who get their ideas from Rand and Rush.

Almost all of them make all sorts of exceptions to their minarchism, saying that government should provide for national security and whatever else takes their fancy (highway maintenance was a popular one, and they always seemed very enthusiastic about America’s military adventures). Border control would certainly be one of the functions of a minimalist government for most of them. Moreover, a furriner arriving in their ideal world without capital or high-level skills would end up signing himself into slavery for one of the ruling corporations, which muggedcunt would probably love.

Really though, what’s hateful about them is similar to what’s hateful about some HYSers.
1) They are very proud of having read some books, and what’s more, Books About Philosophy. These books are mainly Rand’s shitty half-baked didactic novels, but to those fuckers they are bibles of shining intellect which means that they too are shining intellectuals.
2) They have learned debating terms and techniques, which they use wildly and usually wrongly, and with gobsmacking dishonesty.
3) They claim at great length to be apolitical and/or non-partisan but mysteriously agree with the right of the Republican party on just about everything except drug laws.
4) They have a massive victim complex, claiming that their ideas (such as self-reliance and personal liberty) are ruthlessly excluded from the American media.
5) They are invariably misanthropic bastards.
6) They’re fat and they have B.O.

I think some internet based cunts misunderstand the concept of a state’s only justifiable porpouse being to prevent the individual from harming others (that covers alot…), with solopsonism and that a state must not prevent them from actively ruining people’s lives.

I think that very nearly everything is wrong with libertarians, with their “all tax is oppressive” and their “all governments are dreadful and all ‘rights’ are artificial and oppressive except, oh, my right to Daddy’s property and money”. But then I am currently somewhat warped by the utter despair this SYB post has induced and shall be crying in a corner.
